Best Clipper Blades for
Maltese Grooming

The Maltese has a stunning floor-length silky white single coat when fully grown out. Like Poodles, the coat grows continuously and does not shed, but it mats easily and requires daily brushing or regular clipping. Most pet Maltese are kept in a practical short clip.

Maltese Grooming Tips

1

The white Maltese coat shows every imperfection — use finish-cut (F) blades and work slowly for the smoothest result.

2

Tear staining around the eyes is common. Trim carefully with rounded-tip scissors, not a blade, around the eye area.

3

The silky coat is delicate — use sharp blades to prevent pulling. Dull blades snag fine Maltese hair.

4

A #5F body clip with a scissored round "baby face" is the most popular Maltese pet style.

5

For the white coat, use blade coolant spray frequently — heat marks show more on light-colored coats.

Ceramic Blades — Cooler, Longer-Lasting

Our zirconia ceramic blades stay 75% cooler than steel — ideal for sensitive Maltese skin. Same A5 snap-on fit, 5× longer edge life.Compare ceramic vs steel →

Maltese Grooming Blade FAQ

What blade gives the best finish on a Maltese coat?
Finish-cut blades (#5F, #4F, #7F — the "F" stands for Finish) are essential for Maltese grooming. They have closely-spaced teeth that give a smooth, line-free finish on the fine silky coat. Skip-tooth blades leave visible lines on a Maltese and should be avoided.
Can I use the same blades for a Maltipoo?
Yes. Maltipoos (Maltese × Poodle) typically have a coat that is slightly curlier than a purebred Maltese but groomed the same way. The same A5 blade sizes apply. Maltipoo coats may need slightly more frequent grooming (every 4-5 weeks) due to the Poodle influence.
