Labradoodles have one of the most variable coats in the dog world — ranging from flat and shedding (more Labrador) to tight curls (more Poodle). Most pet Labradoodles have a soft, wavy "fleece" coat that requires regular professional grooming every 6-8 weeks to prevent matting.

Labradoodle Grooming Tips
Labradoodle coats mat easily, especially in the armpits, behind ears, and around the collar area. Regular brushing between grooming sessions is essential.
If the coat is matted, clip with the lay of the hair using a #7F or #5F. Never force a blade through a matted coat — it dulls blades and risks cutting the skin.
The #5F is the "goldilocks" blade for most Labradoodles — short enough to prevent matting but long enough to keep the signature fluffy doodle look.
For ears, many groomers prefer scissor finishing after a #10 cleanup. The ear leather is thin and sensitive.
Doodle coats are softer than poodle coats and generate less heat, but the sheer volume of hair means you should still rotate blades during long sessions.
