Types of Foundation Damage

Structural Cracking

Foundation Crack Injection: Step by Step

Foundation crack injection is the most common repair method. The procedure is the same whether the crack is in a basement wall, a footing, or a grade beam.

Assessment: Measure crack width, depth, and extent. Determine whether the crack is active (still moving) or dormant (stable). Active cracks require flexible materials; dormant cracks can be repaired with rigid epoxy. Surface preparation: Clean the crack surface and the concrete on both sides. Remove any efflorescence, paint, or contamination from the area where injection ports and surface seal will be applied. Port installation: Bond injection ports along the crack at intervals approximately equal to the wall thickness. For a 200mm thick wall, space ports at 200mm centers. Surface sealing: Apply surface seal paste (XQ-LF-SS) over the crack between ports to prevent resin leakage during injection. Allow 4-6 hours cure before injecting. Injection: Starting at the lowest port, inject resin at low pressure (0.2-0.4 MPa). When resin flows from the next higher port, cap the current port and move up. Continue until all ports are filled. Verification: After cure, inspect the surface seal for any areas where resin leaked through, indicating incomplete seal. Core samples can be taken for critical applications to verify crack fill.

Carbon Fiber Strengthening for Foundation Walls

For foundation walls with structural cracking or inadequate capacity, carbon fiber fabric provides an efficient strengthening solution. CFRP strips applied vertically on the interior face of basement walls resist lateral earth pressure, while horizontal strips can reinforce against in-plane forces.
